BEEKENKAMP VERPAKKINGEN : Introducing the XL Breeding Box for Insect Breeding

Introducing the XL Breeding Box for Insect Breeding on an Industrial Scale

Who are Beekenkamp Verpakkinggen?

Beekenkamp Verpakkingen has been a producer and supplier of various logistics solutions for more than 40 years. For several years now, they have also been providing targeted solutions for insect breeding. Together with their practical experience, they look at how they can take this new industry to a higher level.

The Beetle Inlay Tray

After the introduction of several insect breeding trays for mealworm and BSF (Black Soldier Fly) production, we were able to show you the new beetle inlay tray in the previous edition of Beta Buzz.

The beetle inlay tray for mealworm cultivation has been developed in collaboration with our customers and meets the need to separate the mealworm beetles from the eggs to realize a higher egg yield together with serious labor savings. These inlay trays are available for the regular type 6206 insect breeding box, and for the type 6207 BSF breeding box as well.

Next to our existing 60-40-19 BSF insect breeding box used for the BSF (black soldier fly) and mealworm cultivation, we also have an 60-80-19 breeding box in our assortment. The ingenious proportions of the box in relation to breeding and stacking height make the box ideal for achieving high yields and returns. In addition to a great deal of heat, a lot of CO2 and ammonia are produced during the breeding process.

The box has open corners together with a uniquely designed long side, especially for this purpose. Together with the new base, this provides for improved airflow, which increases air displacement. This makes it possible to achieve a more even climate between boxes.

Breeding generally always takes place on a large scale and requires the boxes to be handled frequently. For this reason, the boxes are constructed such that they will last for years.

Our specific bottom structure means that the crates remain sufficiently rigid despite the large surface area. Together with specialists in the field of automation, we have looked at the most efficient automated processing method for these new breeding boxes.

“Partly as a result of sufficient stiffness in the corners in combination with sufficient grip options, these BSF boxes are highly suitable for automatic stacking, unstacking and washing.”

The new insect breeding boxes are made of a food-safe certified combination of polypropylene (PP) and dye, which complies with the latest legislation on substance migration. The use of PP materials ensures that the boxes are dimensionally very stable and that they can be cleaned at high temperatures.
